Ardalt Japan, Two Mid-Century Modern Ceramic Animal Lamps, Yorkshire Terrier and Owl
Description
A pair of mid-century modern glazed ceramic animal-themed decorative items, comprising a Yorkshire Terrier-style dog and an owl perched upon books. The dog figurine is designed as a TV lamp or accent light, featuring a hollow-cast body with an internal electrical socket and a brown two-prong cord. The base of the dog lamp bears the blue underglaze crown mark and initials AA for Ardalt, Japan. The accompanying owl figurine is of similar hollow-cast construction and glazed finish, suitable for use as a decorative vessel or conversion into a matching lamp base, though it currently lacks electrical components. Both pieces exhibit the characteristic stylised aesthetic of the period with rich, multi-tonal glazes. Owl height approximately 18 cm.
Condition report:
Both items are in good vintage condition with no apparent chips, cracks, or restorations. Surface wear and dust are present consistent with age. The dog lamp retains its original electrical fittings; however, the electrical status is untested and rewiring is recommended for safety. The owl figurine is missing its electrical fittings.
