Description

A vintage monocular compound microscope, attributed to Monolux, dating to the mid-20th century. The instrument is constructed with a robust metal frame featuring a black crinkle-enamel finish on the horseshoe base and limb. Key components, including the drawtube, triple revolving nosepiece, and adjustment knobs, are finished in polished chrome. Features include a rack-and-pinion coarse focus adjustment, a sub-stage plano-concave mirror for illumination, and a rectangular stage with integrated specimen clips. The microscope is housed in its original light-toned wooden storage case measuring approximately 24 centimetres in height, fitted with a metal carry handle and internal wooden slotted racks for slides. Accessories include a small collection of glass slides and a plastic sample vial. No maker’s name or serial number is immediately visible.

Condition report:

The instrument is in good used condition. The black enamel and chrome finishes show well with minimal wear. Mechanically, the focus adjustment and nosepiece move freely. The optics appear visually clear, though they have not been tested for high-power resolution. The wooden case is structurally sound with some minor surface staining to the interior.
