A Neoclassical Style Cast Plaster Architectural Wall Corbel Featuring the Goddess Diana
Description
A decorative neoclassical-style wall bracket or corbel, expertly crafted from cast plaster with a matte off-white finish. The piece features a central female mask in high relief, identified as the goddess Diana or Selene by the distinctive crescent moon tiara. The face is framed by an abundance of moulded grapes, orchard fruits, and dense foliage that tapers elegantly towards a pointed foliate base. The top is finished with a flat, moulded shelf suitable for the display of small objects. The reverse is hollow-cast and fitted with a wire for wall mounting. This piece reflects the enduring influence of classical antiquity on interior decoration. A small inventory sticker numbered 6182 is present on the face. Length: approximately 30.5 cm.
Condition report:
The corbel exhibits surface wear and minor chips to the edges and raised decorative elements, consistent with age and handling. There is some light discolouration and dust trapped within the recesses of the moulding. The integrated hanging wire is present and functional.
