Description
This Circa 1800s etui is a fine example of personal hardware from the late 18th century. The rectangular body is constructed from polished tortoiseshell, featuring the deep mottled brown and amber tones characteristic of the material. A plain, shield-shaped metal cartouche, likely silver or a high-quality silver-toned alloy, is securely pinned to the front face, providing a vacant space for personalised engraving. Condition report:
The etui case is in good antique condition with wear consistent with its age and intended use. The tortoiseshell exterior shows minor surface scratches and light abrasions. There is visible tarnish on the metal cartouche and the interior gold-toned lining. The hinged lid is fully functional, The item appears complete with its original internal components. A small white adhesive inventory label bearing the handwritten number 6182 is present on the front face.
