Lot 205:
tortoiseshell napkin ring and piqué work trinket box
Description
A collection of two decorative objects fashioned from a material that appears to be tortoiseshell, displaying a rich honey-coloured translucency with dark brown mottled inclusions. The first item is a napkin ring of waisted cylindrical form with flared rims, presented in a fitted case with a purple velvet and cream satin interior. The second item is a miniature casket-style trinket box with a domed lid, featuring piqué-style metal studs and a central rectangular metal plaque. The metal components appear to be a silver-toned base metal as no hallmarks are visible. These pieces are characteristic of the late 19th to early 20th-century aesthetic. No maker’s marks or weights are available.
Condition report:
Both items are in good vintage condition. The surfaces show a high polish with light scuffing and minor surface scratches consistent with age. The metal studs on the trinket box appear secure and the plaque is blank. The presentation case shows some external wear to the edges, while the interior remains in good order.
