Late 19th-Century Continental Vienna Regulator-Style Wall Clock
Description
A late 19th-century Continental Vienna regulator-style wall clock, likely of German manufacture. The architectural case is crafted from dark-stained hardwood, possibly walnut, featuring an elaborate cresting topped with a prominent spread-wing eagle finial. The central glazed door is flanked by two large, turned columns accented with carved human face masks and decorative rosettes. The upper and lower sections of the case are further embellished with multiple turned finials. The circular cream-coloured dial features black Roman numerals and ornate pierced metal hands, with two winding apertures for the eight-day mechanical time and strike movement. The clock typically strikes on the hour and half-hour on an internal wire gong. The full-length glass panel reveals a large, circular brass-toned pendulum. Dimensions: Approx. 105cm height x 40cm width x 18cm depth.
Condition report:
The case is in good aesthetic condition with minor age-related wear to the wood finish and some dust accumulation. All major decorative elements, including the eagle finial and lower drop finials, appear present. The mechanical movement is working order and timekeeping has been overhauled and new bushes etc The dial shows minor age-related discolouration but remains clear. Includes a pendulum.
