A Large Collection of Mid-Century Novelty Ceramic Salt and Pepper Shakers
Description
A comprehensive assembly of vintage ceramic novelty salt and pepper shakers, predominantly dating to the mid-20th century. The collection features a variety of moulded earthenware forms decorated with hand-painted glazes, ranging from vibrant high-gloss to textured speckled finishes. The diverse subject matter includes anthropomorphic fauna such as owls, ducks, rabbits, and bees, as well as human figures including children in winter costume, turbanned characters, and figures in Dutch-style dress. Further sets are modelled as beehive skeps, fruit baskets, and floral arrangements. While largely unmarked, the silhouettes and decorative techniques are consistent with mid-century manufacturers such as Shawnee and various Japanese export wares of the period. Tray measures approximately 46cm in width.
Condition report:
Overall condition is fair to good, with surface wear, minor glaze nicks, and crazing commensurate with age and domestic use. Some sets may be incomplete or lack original stoppers.
