Victorian Mahogany Tabletop Chest of Drawers Category: Chests
Description
A Victorian period tabletop collector’s chest, dating from the late 19th century. The piece is constructed from mahogany with a dark-stained finish, featuring a bank of six drawers of equal depth. Each drawer is fitted with a pair of original turned wooden knobs. The construction includes a simple overhanging top and a modest plinth base. These miniature chests were commonly used for the organisation of small domestic items, jewellery, or as apprentice pieces. No maker’s marks or provenance labels are present. Dimensions: 42cm H x 34cm W x 18cm D.
Condition report:
The chest is structurally sound with all drawers functioning correctly. The dark finish exhibits significant surface wear consistent with age, including prominent scratches, scuffs, and abrasions to the top and front elevations. The turned knobs appear original and are securely attached. No evidence of woodworm or major structural failure is noted.
