A Neoclassical Revival Gilt-Metal and Jasperware Desk Set Has Crack In The Lid Category: Metalware
Description
A Neoclassical revival desk set comprising a shaped gilt-metal tray with an integral pen well and three coordinating lidded vessels. The metal components, likely brass or bronze with a gold-toned finish, are decorated with finely engraved foliate scrollwork along the scalloped rims and sides. Each lid features an inset pale blue jasperware ceramic plaque, executed in the manner of Wedgwood, depicting white bas-relief classical scenes including putti and mythological figures. The set includes two circular lidded pots and a central oval lidded box. No maker’s marks or hallmarks are present. Tray length approximately 26 cm.
Condition report:
The set is in fair condition. There is visible surface wear and significant tarnishing to the gilded finish throughout. One of the circular jasperware inserts has a prominent diagonal crack. Minor surface dirt and age-related wear to the ceramic reliefs.
