Contemporary Mid-Century Modern Style Birch Veneer Poäng Armchair by IKEA
Description
A contemporary cantilevered lounge chair in the Mid-Century Modern style, specifically the Poäng model designed by Noboru Nakamura for IKEA. The frame is constructed from layer-glued, steam-bent birch veneer, designed to provide a characteristic resilient movement. The chair is upholstered in a dark navy blue Hillared fabric, featuring a high backrest and a separate rectangular headrest cushion secured by two tan leather straps. The assembly is held together with visible metal hex-head fasteners. This design, first introduced in the 1970s, is a well-known example of mass-market Scandinavian functionalism. Dimensions: 100cm H x 68cm W x 82cm D.
Condition report:
The chair is in good structural condition with the frame remaining sound and flexible. The birch veneer finish is well-maintained with no significant wear or delamination.
