After Vincent van Gogh, Noon: Rest from Work (after Millet), (Signed)
Description
After Vincent van Gogh (Dutch, 1853–1890). Oil on stretched canvas. This work is a contemporary stylized reproduction of Van Gogh’s celebrated composition, which was originally an interpretation of a work by Jean-François Millet. The scene depicts two field labourers napping in the shade of a large haystack during the heat of the day. The artist has employed a Post-Impressionist style, characterised by bold, rhythmic impasto and a vibrant colour palette dominated by ochre, orange, and cerulean blue. An indistinct signature in red pigment is located in the upper right quadrant. The painting is presented in an ornate, gold-finished composite frame featuring scrolling foliate motifs and a cream-coloured inner liner. No verso labels or stamps are present. Dimensions unavailable.
Condition report:
The painting is in excellent condition. The oil paint layer is stable with no visible craquelure, flaking, or paint loss. The surface is clean and free from significant dust or grime. The canvas is well-tensioned on its stretcher and shows no signs of lining or repair. The frame is in good condition, exhibiting only minor, age-appropriate wear to the gilded finish.
