Two Victorian Measham Bargeware Glazed Earthenware Teapots
Description
Two late Victorian Measham bargeware teapots crafted from earthenware with a deep brown Rockingham-style glaze. The vessels are decorated with applied polychrome floral sprigging and feature lids topped with miniature teapot finials. One teapot is inscribed on an applied white banner PRESENT FROM A FRIEND 1886. The second teapot is inscribed ALBERT WOODHEAD DRAUGHTON STREET BRADFORD. These examples of barge ware are characteristic of the pottery historically associated with the English canal system and are offered as restoration items.
