Lot 446:
A Pair of Ceramic Bear Figurines, Including Blue Mountain Pottery Style Drip Glaze Bear
Description
A collection of two distinct ceramic animal figurines. The first item is a large, stylized prone creature, identified through consensus as being consistent with the style of Blue Mountain Pottery (BMP) or similar Art Deco ceramic manufacturers. This figure features a highly glossy, flowing variegated drip glaze ranging from deep turquoise and teal to dark forest green and black. The base openings reveal unglazed terracotta earthenware (redware) construction. The second item is a smaller porcelain figurine depicting a seated panda bear. The panda is rendered primarily in white and grey glaze and is holding a yellowish stalk of bamboo. The base of the panda figure displays impressed and painted markings, which are currently obscured by four affixed green felt pads.
