Lot 406:
A Moorcroft Pottery Oberon Pattern Charger Plate
Description
A single circular ceramic charger plate executed by Moorcroft Pottery in the highly recognizable Oberon pattern, designed by Rachel Bishop. The plate features the characteristic Moorcroft tube-lined technique, depicting a central cluster of polychrome flowers surrounded by a dense wreath of pink/red blossoms and yellow trumpet flowers. The decoration is set against a dark, near-black background rim and a gradient salmon-toned center. The reverse base is impressed with standard manufacturer marks “MOORCROFT” and “MADE IN ENGLAND.” Hand-painted marks include a green “VW” (likely a decorator mark), red numerals “93” (suggesting the year 1993), and a red script “WM.” An inventory sticker labeled “8 7 A” is visible on the upper rim of the face.
