Description
A single military-style lensatic marching compass constructed of painted metal in a matte khaki/olive drab finish. This type of field equipment, while functionally ,prismatic models like the Stanley London compass, is designed for rugged military use. The compass features a hinged protective cover/sight with an internal sighting wire, a rotating bezel marked primarily in mils (visible numerical markings ascend to 64), and a hinged rear sighting assembly incorporating a magnifying lens. The inner dial exhibits a pale green coloration, indicative of a luminous material for low-light use. The exterior base is marked with partial manufacturer details including “TAYLOR,” “ROCHEST[ER],” and the potential federal stock number “8050-593-9439.” A modern adhesive label bearing the number ‘6182’ is affixed to the interior of the lid.
