A Collection of Twenty-Nine Late Victorian and Edwardian Celluloid Manicure and Sewing Accessories
Description
A large collection of twenty-nine assorted late Victorian or Edwardian sewing and vanity accessories. The central piece is a heart-shaped fitted manicure set case, covered in black velvet exterior and lined internally with pale blue ruffled satin. The lid features an oval mirror. The fitted base holds seven pale blue handled manicure tools, likely made of celluloid, decorated with black stylized foliage, including files, cuticle pushers, and small scissors. The set also includes a small celluloid novelty figurine of a dancer. The accompanying loose accessories include two packets of green paper-wrapped John James & Sons Redditch Egged Eyed Sharps sewing needles, marked 3/7 British Make, a small book titled A Present from Bathhead, a maroon leather-covered needle case containing small metal scissors, a white bone thimble, a pair of wooden bobbins, a black polished oblong object, possibly jet or vulcanite, and various small metal and bone sewing implements, including a pair of dark metal scissors and a glass-handled tool with an amber-colored bulb. The collection also includes a small packet of The All-In Compact safety pins.
