A 19th Century Chippendale Style Mahogany Side Chair
Description
A single side chair or vanity stool executed in the 19th Century Chippendale style, exhibiting characteristics of earlier Georgian transitional furniture. The frame is constructed of polished wood, likely mahogany, finished in a dark reddish-brown hue. The chair features an open back with a shaped crest rail and a central figured wood splat. It is supported by four cabriole legs terminating in simple ball feet. The drop-in seat cushion is upholstered in a pale green fabric featuring horizontal stripes. The reverse of the crest rail bears two affixed auction stickers: one reading “SHELBY’S AUCTIONEERS LOT 226,” and a second marked “6182.”
