Two Antique Side Chairs: A Victorian Balloon Back and a Neoclassical Example
Description
Two antique side chairs, comprising a Victorian Rococo Revival ‘balloon back’ example and a Neoclassical style example. The Victorian chair, consistent with ‘Traditional Victorian Balloon Back Side Chair’ examples found in research, is constructed from dark-stained hardwood, likely mahogany or similar. It features an intricately carved scrolling detail on the lower back rail and cabriole front legs. The seat is upholstered in an olive green patterned fabric. A small white inventory sticker on the top rail displays ‘JBC 282’. The Neoclassical style chair, drawing influence from Regency and Louis Philippe designs, is also crafted from dark-stained hardwood. It presents a straight, rectangular crest rail adorned with lighter wood inlay, a slatted back, and tapered square legs. Its seat is upholstered in a light-colored fabric with a muted floral pattern.
