Lot 462:
A Collection of Russian Folk Art Dolls and Souvenirs, together with a Vanity Case and a Cased Set of Knives
Description
This diverse collection includes several items of potential Russian origin. A set of five painted wooden nesting dolls, or matryoshka, depict male political figures, with the largest bearing the partial Russian word “ДЕНТ” (part of “President”). Also present is a painted wooden doll featuring a female figure holding a baby, and a taller doll with a porcelain head and hands wearing a red and green traditional fabric costume with a matching headdress, consistent with ethnographic dolls. A bundle of several Khokhloma-style painted wooden spoons, decorated with red and gold berries on a black background, is included. Further items comprise a brown leatherette or faux leather zippered vanity case, open to reveal several silver-toned metal containers within elastic straps; a dark brown, round, possibly wooden or bakelite coaster with a carved edge; and a maroon fabric-lined box containing a set of six small knives with bright green handles and metal blades.
