Lot 46:
A Collection of Late 19th/Early 20th Century Horse Brasses and Leather Harness, with Engraved Plaque for Lt. General Sir Thomas D'Oyly Snow
Description
A collection of brass and leather items, primarily comprising a historical military, ceremonial, or equestrian leather harness or belt. This main leather strap is adorned with multiple ornate brass fittings, including domed, scalloped, and other decorative bosses. Accompanying this piece are several loose brass objects, such as a small bell, various fobs, rings, and a circular medallion clearly marked “BRADFORD” and “2779 HAWKER.” A significant rectangular brass plaque is engraved with the text: “LT. GENERAL SIR THOMAS D’OYLY SNOW K.C.B. K.C.M.G. 3rd Prince Albert’s (Somerset Light Infantry) 2nd Lieutenant 22nd January 1879 Appointed Colonel 1st August 1919.” The items are predominantly crafted from brass and leather, exhibiting a well-developed patination and wear consistent with their age, suggesting a late 19th to early 20th-century period.
