A pair of early 20th century ebonised wood carved elephant bookends. Each bookend features a naturalistic yet stylized elephant figure positioned on a rectangular base, with an integrated upright support. The dark wood, consistent with ebonised or stained timber, is extensively inlaid with a contrasting light-colored material, possibly bone or a synthetic substitute. This inlay forms intricate dotted patterns along the bases, the elephants’ toenails and tusks, and stylized designs on the vertical bookend sections.
