Mary Gregory Style Ruby Glass Jug, 19th Century
Description
A Mary Gregory style ruby glass jug, dating to the 19th century. This glass jug features a bulbous body, a flared rim with a distinct spout, and an applied clear glass handle with a reeded texture. The main body is extensively decorated with frosted acid-etched designs in a pastoral style, depicting a child-like figure holding a flower beside a picket fence, surrounded by stylized trees, with a decorative foliate band around the base. The aesthetic is consistent with the Victorian or Rococo Revival period. No visible text, signatures, or maker’s marks are discernible. Mary Gregory refers to a style of decoration featuring white enamel figures on colored glass, popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and is often associated with manufacturers such as Fenton Art Glass.
Approximately 22 cm high.
