A Pair of Indian Rajasthani Kathputli String Puppets
Description
A pair of Indian Rajasthani Kathputli string puppets, consistent with late 20th to early 21st-century production. Each figure features a carved and painted wooden head with distinct facial characteristics, including large eyes, pronounced eyebrows, and mustaches. Their bodies are constructed from a variety of textiles, featuring brightly colored solid and patterned fabrics, extensively adorned with metallic threads, sequins, and tinsel-like embellishments. The left puppet is dressed primarily in blue and turquoise hues, while the right puppet wears pink patterned trousers and a multi-colored striped hat. Visible strings are attached to the limbs. A small, unreadable white tag or sticker is present on the lower leg of the right puppet.
