Description
An antique Victorian wall-mounted aneroid barometer, crafted from dark, elaborately carved burr walnut in the banjo form. The central circular dial features a brass bezel and glass cover, displaying weather indications including “STORMY,” “RAIN,” “CHANGE,” “FAIR,” and “VERY DRY.” Numerical pressure readings from 25 to 31 are present, alongside sub-readings such as “WET MORE WIND,” “DRY LESS WIND,” “FALL,” “RISE,” and cardinal point directions like “SW-SE” and “NW-NE.” A central indicator needle is visible. The wooden frame features a recessed vertical channel above the dial, designed to house a thermometer. A prominent carved shield or crest motif adorns the base. A small paper label on the dial notes “SHELBY’S AUCTIONEERS” and “LOT 187,” with additional handwritten markings “26” and “7007.”
