A Late Victorian or Edwardian Dark-Stained Oak Adjustable Pole Firescreen with Embroidered Panel
Description
An adjustable pole screen, dating to the Late Victorian or Edwardian period, crafted from dark-stained wood, likely oak. The frame features turned barley-twist columns on either side and a carved, pierced top rail. The central rectangular panel houses a vibrant embroidery protected by glass. The embroidered scene depicts a blue and pink exotic bird perched amidst an array of colorful flowers and foliage on a light-toned fabric ground. A stylized monogram, appearing to be “PM” or “RM,” is visible in the lower right corner of the embroidery. Auction stickers with lot number “393” are present on the frame, and “19” on the panel.
