An Elizabeth II 1963 Gold Full Sovereign Pendant in a 9 Carat Gold Mount
Description
A gold coin pendant featuring a 1963 Elizabeth II full sovereign. The 22 carat gold coin is secured within a 9 carat gold decorative openwork bezel mount characterized by a repeating scalloped or scrolling pattern around its circumference. The pendant is suspended from a tapered bail. The obverse of the coin displays the first definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Mary Gillick, facing right, with the legend ELIZABETH · II · DEI · GRATIA · REGINA · F : D : +. The reverse depicts the classic design of St George and the Dragon by Benedetto Pistrucci above the date 1963, with the artist’s initials B.P. visible in the exergue. A handwritten adhesive tag accompanying the item is inscribed 22ct Full Sovereign 9ct mount 1963. 10.23 grams. There is a small, stamped mark on the reverse of the bail, but the characters are too worn to be legible as a name or specific hallmark.
