An Antique Rococo Revival Gilt Gesso Oval Wall Mirror
Description
A wall hanging mirror of oval form designed in the Rococo Revival style. The ornate frame is constructed from gilt finished gesso over a wooden substrate, featuring elaborate scrolling acanthus leaves, foliate flourishes, and pierced openwork throughout. Prominent shell motifs are situated at the top and bottom centres of the frame. The mirror contains a central oval glass plate. Affixed to the front of the glass are two modern white auction inventory labels, one reading L 847 and the other Holley and Stevenson 141. The reverse of the mirror is fitted with a wooden backing and wire for hanging.
