A Collection of Ringtons Blue and White Transfer-Printed Wares
Description
A collection of Ringtons tea wares and tablewares, comprising glazed earthenware with underglaze blue transfer-printed decoration and overglaze gilded highlights. The collection includes two teapots, one of square form with a domed lid and gold-tone finial, and one of rectangular form with a dark blue spout and handle. Also included is a hexagonal lidded storage jar, a rectangular footed bowl with a matching rectangular stand, a milk jug with a scalloped rim, and a pair of baluster-form salt and pepper shakers.
The decoration features various architectural and landscape views, primarily of Northern English landmarks. The central teapot is printed with The Humber Bridge and Ripon Cathedral. The hexagonal jar and rectangular bowl also feature scenes of Ripon Cathedral, with the bowl further depicting Hexham Abbey. The milk jug and shakers are decorated in a traditional Chinoiserie Willow pattern style. Several pieces bear gilded rims and accents, which show characteristic overglaze application. One item retains an auction house lot sticker for lot 84 and a handwritten stock label.
