A Trio of nao Porcelain Figurines comprising Bashful Girl, Spring Joy and Storks
Description
This collection consists of three glazed porcelain figurines manufactured by nao in Spain. The set includes two pastoral figures of young girls and a wildlife study. The first figurine, identified by incised model number 5221 and known as Bashful Girl, depicts a young girl wearing a blue-bodiced dress and a white apron, holding a large cluster of hand-modelled pink flowers. The second figurine, identified as Spring Joy (model 5222), shows a girl in a similar dress holding a pale green pitcher containing a small bouquet of pink flowers. The third item, model number 5224 titled Storks, is a naturalistic sculpture of two storks or cranes, one with wings aloft, standing among reeds on a pastel-toned base. All three pieces are finished in a characteristic high-gloss glaze with a soft pastel colour palette. Each base bears the official blue printed nao backstamp featuring a bellflower symbol and the words Handmade in Spain. Incised model numbers 5221 and 5224 are visible on the undersides. One figurine retains a paper auction label from a previous sale.
