Description

A pair of Chinese porcelain plates of varying sizes, each featuring a pale celadon-tinted glaze. The decoration is executed in the famille rose palette with overglaze enamels, depicting a traditional birds and flowers motif. The scene includes long-tailed pheasants perched among blooming peonies and other floral sprays, accompanied by butterflies. Both plates are finished with a brown-dressed rim. The larger plate contains a small, blank rectangular pink cartouche within the composition. The base of the larger plate bears a six-character seal mark in underglaze blue reading Da Qing Qianlong Nian Zhi (大清乾隆年製). This mark is apocryphal, and the plate is attributed to the late 19th or early 20th century. The smaller plate features an abstracted underglaze blue pseudo-seal mark on the underside.
Larger plate: 19.5 cm diameter
Smaller plate: 14.5 cm diameter.
