A Second World War RAF Type P11 Aircraft Grid-Steering Compass in a Wooden Case
Description
A British military aircraft grid-steering magnetic compass, identified by markings as a Type P11. The instrument is constructed from grey-painted metal with a rotating bezel and internal grid wires. The dial features cardinal points marked N, E, S, and W, with the North point highlighted by a red square. Numerical increments are marked from 10 to 350. The compass is mounted within a square, stained hardwood box featuring brass pin construction. The lid of the case contains a large, inset convex glass viewing dome. The metal rim of the compass is engraved with the text TYPE P.11. and No 6858 B.
