Description

A collection of decorative ceramic items in the Chinese style, comprising a pair of lidded porcelain jars and a pair of glazed guardian lion figures. The porcelain jars are of baluster form with matching domed covers, decorated in underglaze blue with bird motifs, resembling cranes or herons, amongst flowering peonies and foliage. The decoration is accented with a key-fret border to the shoulder and lid rim, and a stylised petal border to the base. One jar features an illegible blue underglaze circular mark to the body and handwritten numerals 9, 3, 1, 2 in black ink to the lid. The guardian lion (foo dog) figures are finished in a monochrome turquoise glaze, modelled in traditional seated poses upon rectangular plinths with openwork geometric cut-outs. These items are consistent with 20th-century production for the decorative market.
Dimensions: Lidded jars stand approximately 25cm to 30cm in height.
