Edwardian Sterling Silver Pedestal Christening Cup Harris Allday and Son Birmingham 1904
Description
An Edwardian sterling silver single-handled pedestal cup or christening mug manufactured by Harris Allday and Son. The vessel features a flared rim and a raised central girdle, standing on a stepped, circular pedestal foot. It is fitted with an ornate double-scroll handle featuring a thumb rest and a decorative volute terminal. The design reflects the revivalist styles of the early 20th century, drawing on 18th-century Georgian pedestal cup forms. The body of the cup bears a clear set of English hallmarks: a maker mark consisting of the letters H and A above S in a shaped punch, a lion passant, an anchor, and a lowercase letter e within a shield with a pointed base.
