Lot 280:
A Collection of Gold Imari Style Plates and a Pair of Famille Noire Ginger Jars
Description
A collection of decorative ceramics comprising a set of plates and a pair of lidded ginger jars. The plates include an example decorated in the Imari style, featuring a central floral medallion within alternating lobed cartouches of floral sprays, set against a geometric ground of iron red, cobalt blue, and gilt. This pattern is consistent with Japanese Gold Imari porcelain. The remaining plates in the stack display various landscape and pictorial decorations. Accompanying the lot is a Royal Worcester certificate of authenticity for fine bone china, signed by P. Baker, identifying the associated plates as products of the Royal Worcester factory. The pair of ginger jars are of globular form with matching domed lids, decorated in the Famille Noire style with an all-over pattern of pink, white, and blue blossoms among green foliage on a solid black ground. The decoration on all pieces appears to be transfer-printed with gilded highlights.
