Two Victorian Whitby Jet Mourning Necklaces
Description
Two Victorian-era mourning necklaces. The first item is a beaded necklace featuring alternating faceted spherical beads and elongated, waisted faceted beads, identified as Whitby jet. It is fitted with a white metal barrel screw clasp. The second item is an articulated sculptural necklace composed of interlocking, stylized winged or fleur-de-lis shaped components. The material is an opaque black substance with a soft sheen, characteristic of jet or vulcanite. It features a yellow metal jump ring connector. Both pieces represent 19th-century British mourning jewellery styles. No maker marks or hallmarks are visible on either item.
