Lot 154:
An early 20th-century mahogany and boxwood inlaid mantel clock attributed to Gustav Becker
Description
An early 20th-century mechanical mantel clock featuring an arched Napoleon hat style case. The case is constructed from dark mahogany with inlaid boxwood stringing following the curve of the arch, mounted on a stepped rectangular base supported by four brass bun feet. The clock features a square silvered dial plate with a circular chapter ring, black Roman numeral hour markers, and three winding apertures. A secondary selector dial is positioned at the nine o’clock mark with Chime and Silent settings. The internal mechanical three-train movement is equipped with a series of vertical gong rods and a larger spiral gong, configured for a Westminster chime sequence and hour strike. While the movement and dial are unmarked, the design and configuration are consistent with examples produced by the German maker Gustav Becker.
Width: approximately 28 cm.
