A Royal Vienna Style Porcelain Cabinet Plate Depicting Hippolytus and Phaedra
Description
A circular porcelain cabinet plate featuring a central hand-painted mythological scene. The scene depicts the figures Hippolytus and Phaedra within a classical architectural setting featuring draped fabrics. The wide rim is decorated with eight alternating panels: four in pink featuring gilded classical urns and four in light blue with gilded scrolling foliate motifs. These panels are set against a heavily gilded ground with tooled and beaded detailing, finished with a pale green band to the outer rim. The reverse of the plate bears a blue underglaze Bindenschild or beehive mark and a handwritten title in black script reading Hippolytus und Phädra.
