A Collection of Eight Victorian Style German Porcelain Fairing Figurines
Description
A collection of eight polychrome glazed porcelain figurines, commonly known as fairings, attributed to 19th-century German manufacturers such as Conta and Boehme. These items were traditionally produced for the British market and sold at Victorian-era fairs. Each figurine is mounted on a rectangular plinth base featuring a black script title on the front vertical edge. The scenes depict humorous Victorian domestic routines and social gatherings, with titles including Three o’clock in the morning, Any improvements?, two examples of The last in bed to put out the light, Wet Party, Twelve o’clock in the morning, Returning at one o’clock in the morning, and Visit by Rev. John Wesley. The figurines are decorated with overglaze enamel colours in a naive style.
