Description

A 17th century style oak side chair, of Yorkshire or Derbyshire backstool form, constructed from solid oak with a deep patina. The backrest is composed of two horizontal splats, both elaborately carved and pierced with scrolled foliate motifs, set between uprights terminating in scrolled finials. The chair features a solid inset panel seat and stands on bobbin-turned front legs joined by a corresponding turned front stretcher. The rear legs are of square section, joined by plain side and back stretchers. Construction utilizes pegged mortise and tenon joinery throughout. A small white adhesive label is present on the upper back rail. No maker’s marks or stamps are discernible.
