A George III Commemorative Transfer-Printed Earthenware Mug Dated 1816
Description
A commemorative transfer-printed earthenware mug, likely creamware or pearlware, dating to the early 19th century. The cylindrical vessel is decorated with a hand-tinted transfer print depicting classical urns and trailing purple flowers on one side. The reverse features a formal black-lettered inscription reading Thomas Bott, / Born July 21st / 1816. / Tynemouth. The piece is designed with a scrolled handle and relief-moulded diaper-pattern borders to the rim and flared base. The base features a small circular impressed mark, though the individual characters are not clearly legible. The construction and decoration are characteristic of English regional pottery from the early 19th century.
