Description

A Victorian porcelain two-handled loving cup of cylindrical form, attributed to Coalport or similar Staffordshire manufactories. The vessel features a hand-painted polychrome floral spray to one side, depicting a central pink rose amongst pansies, forget-me-nots, and other garden blossoms. The reverse bears a hand-lettered presentation inscription in cursive script reading: Presented to Thomas Carter Mellon Born 17th July 1860 By His Grandmother. The cup is embellished with gilt banding to the rim and base, with further gilt accents to the scrolling handles. The underside is white glazed with an unglazed foot rim and shows no visible maker’s marks or factory characters. A small blue adhesive label marked 9627 is present on the side.
