This 19th-century British school work is executed in water colour on paper. The composition depicts a busy coastal scene featuring figures and horse-drawn carts on a shoreline, with the masts of sailing vessels visible in the background under an expansive, atmospheric sky. The work is rendered in a loose, painterly style characteristic of mid-19th-century maritime landscape painting.
