1930s Cast Metal Mickey Mouse Figurine, Early Pie-Cut Eye Design, circa 1930-1935
Description
This vintage cast metal figurine depicts an early iteration of the iconic Disney character Mickey Mouse, standing in a classic hands-on-hips pose atop an integrated circular pedestal base. The figure exhibits the distinctive stylistic hallmarks of the early 1930s, most notably the pie-cut eyes, an elongated snout, and a scarf or bow tied around the neck. Mickey is rendered wearing his signature shorts with two prominent buttons and oversized shoes. The construction is a heavy metal alloy, likely lead or spelter, which was common for character toys and car mascots of this era. The figure retains remnants of its original polychrome painted finish, featuring a black body, yellow face and shoes, and blue shorts. While similar models were produced as car mascots (notably the M-306 model) or paperweights, this example features a hollowed, unmarked base typical of Japanese export pieces or early unlicensed European manufacture from the mid-1930s. No manufacturer marks or country of origin stamps are present on the underside. Dimensions are not recorded.
Condition report:
The figurine is in aged, fair condition, exhibiting a heavy patina consistent with its near-century age. There is extensive paint loss and chipping across the entire surface, particularly on the face, hands, and base. The exposed metal shows signs of surface oxidation and pitting. The structural integrity of the casting remains sound with no visible breaks or repairs to the limbs or ears. The piece is offered in its original, unrestored state, retaining the authentic character sought by collectors of early Disneyana.
