Early 20th Century Steiff Style Jointed Mohair Teddy Bear, circa 1920-1930
Description
This vintage teddy bear is a classic example of early 20th-century design, closely following the patterns of renowned German makers such as Steiff. The bear is constructed from gold-toned mohair plush and features a fully jointed body with articulation at the neck, shoulders, and hips. Distinguishing features include a pronounced long snout, hand-embroidered black thread nose and mouth, and characteristic elongated limbs. The piece is stuffed with a coarse vegetable fibre, likely wood wool. A small white tag with the handwritten number 6182 is present on the lower torso; however, no manufacturer buttons, labels, or stamps are visible. Measurements: Not provided.
Condition report:
The bear exhibits significant age-related wear and is in poor to fair condition. The mohair plush is thinned and matted across the majority of the body. Substantial damage is present on the limb pads, including a large hole in the right hand pad and multiple holes and fraying on the foot pads. There is evidence of historical repairs to the feet using coarse stitching. The item is structurally intact but shows the heavy patina of age and use.
