Description

This is a traditional practice chanter, a woodwind instrument specifically designed for pipers to learn and rehearse the fingering and melodies of the Great Highland Bagpipes. The instrument is turned from a polished reddish-brown hardwood, likely rosewood, and is constructed in two primary sections. It is embellished with decorative white metal fittings, including a central ferrule at the joint and a flat, circular sole at the base, both of which feature embossed foliate scrollwork. The chanter pipe is bored with seven finger holes on the front. The upper blowpipe section is smoothly tapered for use. No manufacturer marks, brand names, or serial numbers are present, which is characteristic of student-grade instruments produced for the global market in the latter part of the 20th century. Length: 15.5 inches.

Condition report:

The instrument is in good condition with minor surface scuffs and light wear consistent with regular use. The metal fittings remain secure with only light surface tarnishing. The wooden body is free from structural cracks, chips, or visible repairs. The internal reed is not present.
