Lot 343:
Reeves & Sons Artist's Paint Box, Printing Type, and Scale Weights, Late 19th Century
Description
This lot features a diverse array of late 19th-century tools and decorative storage. The centrepiece is an antique artist’s watercolour paint box, attributed to makers such as Reeves or Rowney, constructed from mahogany-finished wood with a fitted interior containing original ceramic mixing wells and bone-handled tools. Also included is a wooden weight case with red felt lining, housing a partial set of brass scale weights. The printing section comprises a metal tray of lead movable type and several large wooden-mounted rubber stamps. The collection is rounded out by three lithographed wooden boxes featuring bird motifs and two decorative tins, one depicting a Victorian pastoral scene.
Condition report:
The items are in fair to good antique condition. The wooden boxes show typical age-related wear, including scratches and finish loss. The scale weight set is incomplete with several weights missing from the fitted recesses. The metal type and decorative tins show signs of oxidation and patina. The interior of the artist\'s box remains largely intact with original ceramic components, though it shows moderate surface wear.
