Lot 296:
A Collection of Five Grand Tour Style Metal Mixed-Media Decorative Objects
Description
This lot comprises five decorative items of various subjects, likely 19th or 20th-century Grand Tour souvenirs. The collection includes a standing female figure in classical or folk dress, cast in patinated metal with an integral base; a small neo-classical lidded urn with twin handles on a square plinth; a stylised ancient Greek Corinthian-style helmet with a heavy green verdigris patina; a seated anthropomorphic monkey figure on a square base; and a mixed-media pin dish featuring a cast metal donkey attached to a natural scalloped shell. The pieces appear to be sand cast with no visible artist signatures, foundry stamps, or edition numbers. The patination varies across the lot from dark brown to heavy green oxidation.
Condition report:
The items exhibit surface wear and oxidation consistent with age and handling. The helmet has a deliberate verdigris finish which shows some minor flaking. The female figure and urn show some rubbing to the high points of the patina. The natural shell base of the donkey dish is intact with minor edge wear. No significant cracks or repairs are evident.
