Various Makers, Collection of Antique Brass Apothecary and Avoirdupois Weights and Scales
Description
A comprehensive collection of antique and vintage brass weighing equipment by various makers. The lot includes several sets of nested cup weights, a handheld beam balance scale with brass pans housed in a carved wooden storage box, and various individual weights. Larger weights are marked with avoirdupois denominations such as 1 LB and 8 OZ. A rusted metal tin contains numerous small, flat apothecary weights marked in traditional units including DRAM, GRAINS, and SCRUPLES. The items are primarily constructed from brass with a naturally aged patina. Height 10cm.
Condition report:
The items are in used, antique condition. Most brass components show significant oxidation, tarnish, and surface wear. The wooden scale box exhibits notable wear with surface abrasions and loss of finish. The small rectangular tin is heavily rusted with significant corrosion. Nested weight sets appear to be incomplete. Offered in an as-found state.
