Description
A varied collection of ten pressed glass paperweights, primarily of circular domed form with one octagonal faceted example. The group features a range of decorative techniques, most notably decoupage-style transfers and printed vignettes applied to the flat bases, viewed through the magnifying glass of the domes. The subjects include a sepia-toned architectural view of York Minster, a vibrant floral study of pansies, a traditional horse-drawn carriage scene, and a coastal town landscape. Advertising examples include early 20th-century style graphics, notably one for St. Ivel. One distinctive circular weight contains an inset silver-tone metal medallion in relief depicting a reclining putto. These pieces are characteristic of late Victorian through to mid-20th century souvenir and promotional desk accessories. Diameter of largest approximately 8.5 cm; diameter of smallest approximately 4 cm.
Condition report:
The collection is in generally good vintage condition. The glass domes exhibit minor surface scratches, small abrasions, and wear consistent with age and use. Some of the paper transfers show light discolouration, fading, or minor foxing. No significant chips, deep cracks, or previous repairs are evident.
