Description

A charming collection of four miniature decorative figurines, crafted in the tradition of Vienna cold-painted bronzes. The lot comprises two upright anthropomorphic figures, likely cats or wolves, depicted as musicians—one playing a violin and the other a trumpet. Also included is a small bench featuring two seated kittens and a separate vignette on a green-painted base depicting a small child accompanied by a dachshund and a long-legged wading bird. These pieces are typical of the whimsical cabinet curiosities produced in Austria during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. While no manufacturer marks or signatures are present, the casting and subject matter are highly characterised by the style of the period. The figures are cast from a metal alloy, likely bronze, and finished with hand-applied cold paint. Larger figures measure approximately 2.5 to 3 inches (6.4 to 7.6 cm) in height.

Condition report:

The collection is offered in aged condition, exhibiting significant surface wear throughout. There is widespread loss to the original cold-painted finish, revealing the underlying metal and a natural patina consistent with handling over time. The figures appear structurally sound with no visible repairs or missing limbs, though the paint degradation is substantial.
